PLANNING & LAND USE Committee

The Planning and Land Use (PLU) Committee plays an important role in reviewing proposed development projects within the jurisdiction and boundaries of the DSPNA – our neighborhoods. We review proposed projects that are requesting a Zoning Variance or other discretionary permit.

We, as a committee, review the drawings and other documents in an attempt to determine the nature of the requested variance and impact, if granted, on the neighbors and neighborhood. We then meet with the Project Team and voice our concerns, suggested changes and other issues in exchange for our support. If a proposed project is too egregious, adversely impactful, completely out of character, etc. and the project team will not consider our requested modifications, we typically will not support the project. Our determination is communicated to our Neighborhood Council to be considered during the Council’s review of the project.

We also encourage developers of “by-right” projects, meaning no variances have been requested, to meet with us as well so that they can work with us regarding construction staging, parking and other issues that may impact the neighbors of the proposed project.
