What is the Coronavirus?
2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
“Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing illness in people and others that circulate among animals, including camels, cats and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can evolve and infect people and then spread between people such as has been seen with MERS and SARS. The potential for human-to-human transmission of 2019-nCoV is unknown.” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
How can I best protect myself?
Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use an alcohol–based hand sanitizer if in contact with soiled surfaces at shared public places, or persons with coughs and colds.
Cover your coughs and sneezes with a paper tissue, throw the tissue in a trash can and wash hands immediately or use an alcohol–based hand sanitizer. You can cough and sneeze into your flexed elbow.
Avoid crowded or closed spaces, or close contact with anyone who has a cough, fever and respiratory symptoms.
Avoid sharing household items with anyone who has a fever, cough, or cold.
Wear a medical mask if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, and Contact or Visit your healthcare provider as soon as possible
Other early symptoms to watch for are chills, body aches, sore throat, headache, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and runny nose.
