2020 Board Nominees

Here are the bios for our 2020 board nominees, listed in alphabetical order. Voting will take place at the year-end meeting on December 8.

Carter Bravmann

I am currently a member of the DSPNA Board of Directors and have agreed to serve for another two-year term.

As an Architect, I am doing so because I feel strongly about the need to provide a voice to the DSPNA and the Board as a licensed Architect who understand the ways of the Building Department, who knows our neighborhood and City quite well and who has designed well over one hundred homes, most of them in Los Angeles and many in the Hollywood Hills.

I know well the history and design of our neighborhood, and the City of Los Angeles at large. I have developed a strong familiarity with the workings of the Building Department and all of multitude of Byzantine dysfunctions.

My husband and I built our house in 2002, and we had a daughter, Ryder, in 2004. We have lived in our neighborhood for over 17 years, having added onto our house during that period, instead of moving due to our commitment to the neighborhood.

I received my undergraduate and Master of Architecture degree from Berkeley and have lived in Los Angeles since the early 1990’s after graduation.

Barbara Dawson

My husband John and I live on Thrasher Avenue.  We have lived here for 6 years. When we moved to the Birds Streets it was much different than today. We miss the peaceful enjoyment of our surroundings.

The Doheny Sunset Plaza Neighborhood Association (DSPNA) was founded in 2017. Thankful and grateful for the association we didn’t hesitate to become members. I have been an active member since joining and Board Secretary for the past 2 years.

I would like to accept the nomination and continue serving as a board member. Currently serving on several committees. I am committed to do what is necessary to aggressively grow our association to one that is recognized and heard on all issues. Thank you for your consideration.

Ellen Evans

I’ve lived on Doheny Dr. with my wife and two kids for nine years.  When the latest construction boom started in our neighborhood, I was in the middle of my stint as a stay-at-home mom.  We had no infrastructure to respond or take action collectively, let alone to do so effectively.  Developing that infrastructure was the impetus for creating the Neighborhood Association.  I have been honored to serve as Board President since DSPNA was started, and I have also served as our representative on our Neighborhood Council for most of that time.  I believe that through vigilance and persistence we can effectively address problems in our neighborhood, whether they have to do with crime, traffic, noise or construction.

Jim Murray

From May of 2017 to the present, I have served as a Board Member, Treasurer and Controller for DSPNA.  I am also a member of our PLUM Committee and the Bel-Air Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council’s ad hoc Committee on Home Sharing and Party House Activity and Enforcement.  Given my prior accounting background in the non-profit sector, it was apparent to me that I would be of most value to our newly formed organization by managing the bookkeeping and finances.  It has and continues to be a gratifying experience to have been a part of the creation of DSPNA from its inception and to finally see a burgeoning Neighborhood Association flourish in our area.

Lynn Roth

Writer/Director/Producer. Currently serving as a board member as was involved in the founding of the DSPNA. There are two areas I’d like to concentrate on in the next year:

  1. Recently joined the much-needed enforcement committee. It’s been a triumph getting some rules established for our safety and sanity but now we have to make sure these rules are enforced.

  2. Recruiting more people in our neighborhood to become involved. DSPNA’s strength will be increased by having more members.

Lisa Torneden

  • Roger and I have lived on North Doheny Drive for over 20 years (except for a multi-year business relocation to Chicago)

  • 30+ years marketing professional at two global financial institutions

  • Original board member of the DSPNA; I can commit to serve for 2 years

  • DSPNA Mission

My role:

  • Continue to lead the DSPNA Marketing Outreach Committee which focuses on the design and launch of marketing activities and communications that provide timely and relevant updates to appropriate audiences on DSPNA’s goals, progress, obstacles, and known tasks, including enhancements to our new website: dspna.org and extending our Speaker Series and Neighborhood Events into 2020
