Start your Emergency Preparedness Kit with these 10 essential items –check what you have at home before purchasing supplies. 

For persons with a disability or medical condition, ensure your Emergency Kit has supplies specific to your needs.

  1. Water: one gallon per person, per day (2 week supply). Extra water for pets

  2. Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items ((2 week supply): Canned food [meat, fish, fruits, milk, juice and vegetables], peanut butter, crackers, nutrition bars, trail mix, dry cereal

  3. Medicines: 3 weeks supply of prescription medicines and Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc.)

  4. Tools: Flashlight, Multi-purpose tool

  5. Radio: Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible) , Extra batteries for flashlight and radio and other battery operated equipment

  6. First Aid Kit

  7. Toiletries and hygiene supplies

  8. Clothes: 2 set of clothes, blanket/sleeping bag

  9. Copies of important documents [Family and emergency contact information Driver’s license, Passports, Birth Certificates, Social Security cards, Health and Home insurance policies, Medication list, medical card and important medical information, Proof of address, deed/lease to home, Will, Bank account and Credit Card numbers, contact nos], in waterproof container

  10. Cash-at least $100 in small bills 

Pet care items

  1. Pet food, bowl, water, medicines

  2. Collar, leash, muzzle

  3. Pet ID/tag, medical information

  4. Carrier, litter pan, clean up supplies    

Babies and Children

  1. Formula and bottles, Baby food

  2. Diapers

  3. Medications

  4. Extra clothes and Sanitary Supplies

  5. Car seat
