Here are the bios for our 2024 board nominees, listed in alphabetical order. Voting will take place at the year-end meeting on December 4.

CARTER BRAVMANN

I am currently a member of the DSPNA Board of Directors and have agreed to serve for another two-year term. 

As an Architect, I am doing so because I feel strongly about the need to provide a voice to the DSPNA and the Board as a licensed Architect who understand the ways of the Building Department, who knows our neighborhood and City quite well and who has designed well over one hundred homes, most of them in Los Angeles and many in the Hollywood Hills.

I know well the history and design of our neighborhood, and the City of Los Angeles at large. I have developed a strong familiarity with the workings of the Building Department and all of multitude of Byzantine dysfunctions.  To date, we have reviewed over twenty proposed projects, and in many cases, successfully negotiated favorable design changes for the benefit of the immediate neighbors and our entire Neighborhood Association.

My husband and I built our house in 2002, and we had a daughter, Ryder, in 2004. We have now lived in our neighborhood for over 19 years, having added onto our house during that period, instead of moving due to our commitment to the neighborhood.

I received my undergraduate and Master of Architecture degree from Berkeley and have lived in Los Angeles since the early 1990’s after graduation.

HOLLACE BROWN

My husband and I have lived on Queens Road since 1978. Our house, it turned out, was one of the first ones built in the original 1924 “Hacienda Park” development above Sunset Boulevard. The Queens Road pillars, erected in 1924, marked the entrance. The surviving west pillar became vandalized and decrepit and I recently succeeded in having it declared a Historic Cultural Resource by the City of West Hollywood. Along the way, I joined DSPNA with the goal of helping to preserve what we love about our unique neighborhood, to protect our home investment, and to meet new people.

I grew up on Long Island, New York. After college in Boston and work in NYC, I moved here in 1973. I’m now retired. My professional career consisted of corporate management positions in marketing,advertising, and publicity at MGM Records, Max Factor & Co., and at Paramount Home Video where I worked for 18 years on the Paramount Pictures lot (Sr. VP Advertising & Sales Promotion). For DSPNA, I have helped create a range of marketing materials and, with Lisa Torneden, bring “Snacks for our Heroes,” a quarterly program that supports our local LAPD and LAFD.

DSPNA board members and volunteers are dedicated and enthusiastic. I enjoy being involved and I hope to continue working alongside them.

Bradford Cobb

I formerly served on the Bel Air-Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council, and I still serve as an alternate.  I currently serve on the Engagement Committee for Doheny Sunset Plaza Neighborhood Association.  Having lived on the southeastern corner of the neighborhood association since 2014, I have seen the efforts of DSPNA create a greater sense of community and an unmistakable increase in safety and security.  After attending multiple mid-year and end-of-year meetings in person, as well as participating in many video conference meetings during the worst of Covid, I want to continue these efforts by serving on the DSPNA Board.

I am FOR responsible development; clean, peaceful and safe streets; a sense of community among neighbors; keeping and growing our beautiful tree canopy; and wildlife in the hillsides.  Together we will continue the DSPNA mission of advocating for the interests of residents and property owners in our designated area, leaving the hillsides better than when we found them.

ELLEN EVANS

I have served as President of DSPNA since 2017, when we banded together to protect our community.  I also currently serve on the Bel Air-Beverly Crest Neighborhood Council where I am Vice President of Legislative Affairs in addition to chairing a couple of committees.

I’m very proud of what we’ve built and hope to continue to grow the organization and to influence policy and practice in LA in ways that benefit the safety and serenity of our community. 

I’ve lived on Doheny with my wife for over a decade, and our two kids have recently flown the coop and gone off to college. I have educational backgrounds in creative writing and in public policy.

Len Fogge

My wife Jean Gordon and I have lived on Miller Place for 12 years.  We fell in love with the street when renting a house the first year, then were fortunate enough to have a house come up for sale just three houses away.  I retired this past May after a long career in entertainment marketing, having served as President of an advertising agency, Grey Entertainment, a subsidiary of Grey Advertising, then as head of marketing for Showtime Networks, NBC Entertainment and AMC Networks.  I was President of my (299 West 12th St.) condo board in New York, Vice President of the 101 West 79th St. Board,  and have also served as Chairman of the Board of the cable industry’s marketing association, CTAM.  I am currently on the board of Malibu’s Latigo Shore Drive HOA where Jean and I have a house.

Jean has been an active DSPNA member for the past several years, and I now have the time to devote to helping our Association grow, and to dealing with our issues -- development, homelessness, traffic, crime and noise.  I am committed to making our neighborhood the best it can be!

JAMES MURRAY

From May of 2017 to the present, I have served as a board member for DSPNA.In addition, I currently serve as DSPNA’s Controller, a member of DSPNA’s PLUM Committee, and our Neighborhood Council’s ad hoc Home Sharing and Party House Enforcement Committee.

I have lived on Franklin Avenue for the past 45 years. I love our neighborhood and can think of nowhere else I’d rather be. It is what motivates me to do everything within my ability to protect and preserve it.

My prior background of providing accounting services to several Los Angeles area nonprofits makes it a natural fit for me to serve as both board member and controller.

Because I have the time, desire and prerequisite skills, I feel that I am well suited to serve again on the board of DSPNA.

LYNN ROTH

Writer/Director/Producer.

Currently serving as a board member and was involved in the founding of the DSPNA. 

This past year have dedicated most of my time to:

• Spearheading the Saturday morning  enforcement committee making sure rules are being enforced:  that there is no construction on Saturdays and no work any days  before 8 am.  We’re making progress in these areas.

• Being a member of the security patrol committee and seeing progress there too in terms of numbers of people who have joined,  a collective fight against party houses and a sense of more protection in the neighborhood.

Also was extremely satisfied in working to get the disruptive and dangerous Sunday morning car show on Sunset cancelled.

I’d much rather put in effort to help create change than to complain and do nothing!!

LISA TORNEDEN

My husband Roger and I have lived in the Bird Streets for over 30 years and appreciate the uniqueness of this very special area as well as its residents.

I’ve had the pleasure of serving on DSPNA’s board since inception in 2017 and leading its marketing and community outreach efforts which leverage my marketing experience in the financial services industry. The Engagement team’s many accomplishments include designing our logo, launching dspna.org, hosting numerous virtual and in-person events, and creating marketing materials that build awareness of our area and encourage membership in DSPNA.

I look forward to supporting DSPNA in this capacity for the next two years.
